Years that can be amended using e-file:

• The IRS allows taxpayers to electronically amend their returns for the current and previous two years.
  • Forms 1040/1040-SR and Form 1040-NR for tax years 2019, 2020 and 2021 can be amended electronically.

New as of 6/27/22

• Taxpayers can electronically file an amended return to change their filing status or to add a dependent who was previously claimed on another taxpayer's return.

Amended Forms that can be e-filed:

• Form 1040-NR - U.S. Nonresident Alien Income Tax Return
• Forms 1040-SS - U.S. Self-Employment Tax Return
• Forms 1040-PR - Self-Employment Tax Return—Puerto Rico.

There is a checkbox for superseded returns. These can also be e-filed
